Jivdaya Vatsalya Dham – Animal Welfare
Stray and abandoned animals such as dogs, cats and cows can suffer serious injuries due to road and train accidents, electric shocks, attacks by other animals, sharp objects, and other unfortunate circumstances. Birds and wild animals can also become victims of accidents, electrocution, human conflict or injuries in their natural surroundings. At such times, they need immediate first aid, veterinary treatment, food, shelter and compassionate care.
Many injured animals lose their lives simply because timely treatment is not available. Animals with untreated wounds can develop severe infections, permanent deformities or other complications. Injured wild animals and birds face an additional risk because they may be attacked by other animals or remain unnoticed and without proper medical attention.
We often came across such suffering animals and birds and, although we had the compassion and willingness to help them, we did not always have the facilities required to provide proper treatment. We initially started helping injured animals on a personal basis, but over time we realized that a systematic and dedicated approach was necessary to provide regular rescue, treatment and rehabilitation services.
As the need for animal rescue and treatment continued to grow, Edufun Foundation developed Jivdaya Vatsalya Dham, a dedicated animal rescue, treatment and rehabilitation center at Samarwada village on the NH-168 Dhanera–Panthawada Highway in Banaskantha, Gujarat. The center operates on a 50,000 sq. ft. green campus and provides emergency veterinary care, shelter, food and recovery support to injured, sick, abandoned and helpless animals and birds.
Jivdaya Vatsalya Dham provides care through veterinary treatment, surgery, medicines, food, shelter and post-treatment observation. The facility includes animal sheds, an operation theatre, isolation ward, bird-care section, fodder storage and a post-treatment recovery shelter. A team of veterinary doctors, trained staff and volunteers works to ensure that injured animals receive timely attention and appropriate care. The center also remains prepared for emergency rescue services around the clock.
Many of the cases received at the Dham are extremely serious, including road and train accidents, electric shock, fractures, paralysis, severe wounds and abandonment. In several cases, rescuing a large and severely injured animal itself becomes a major challenge. For example, a cow severely injured in a train accident with three broken legs once had to be manually lifted by around 15 volunteers and transported several kilometres with the help of a tractor because a suitable heavy-duty animal rescue ambulance was not available. Such incidents demonstrate the urgent need for better rescue equipment and infrastructure.
At Jivdaya Vatsalya Dham, an injured animal is not simply treated and left alone. It receives medical attention and, wherever required, surgery, medicines, food and a safe place for recovery. The animal is kept under observation until it is sufficiently recovered. Animals that can safely return to their natural or community environment are released or returned appropriately, while those requiring continued care are provided shelter and support.
Our work is guided by a simple belief: every life matters, and an animal’s inability to speak should never mean that its suffering is ignored.
Jivdaya Vatsalya Dham is operated primarily with the support of compassionate individuals, animal lovers, donors, well-wishers and organizations who believe in the value of life. As the number of rescue and treatment cases continues to increase, the Dham needs ongoing financial support for veterinary treatment, medicines, nutritious food, shelter, rescue operations, ambulance services, infrastructure and day-to-day care.

Bird Rescue in Kite Flying Festival
14th January, Kite flying day is the mega festival in the state of Gujarat. Though kite flying is a symbol of freedom; birds can not fly freely in the sky on the 14th day of January, every year.
The thread used for flying kites cuts the wings, neck, legs of birds and they fall down on terraces, grounds and sometimes lose their lives.
Fortunately, some are cured by the team of Edufun Foundation Trust. We collect the threads of used kites, which are mostly hung on trees and electric poles so that other birds do not harm themselves by getting caught in the thread.
Turtle Conservation
Summer is usually hot and dry in the Banaskantha district. The temperature of Dhanera goes up to 45 degrees in summer. There is a shortage of drinking water in lakes, ponds, wells, and rivers.
In the summer of 2020 when people were struggling with the Corona pandemic situation, the turtles were dying due to no water in Zalar lake in Rampura Chhota Village of Dhanera.
More than 6000 turtle lives were in trouble.
Turtles, even at diminished population levels, play an important role in ecosystems of wetlands by maintaining healthy grass beds and coral reefs, providing key habitat for other water organisms, helping to balance food cycles and facilitating nutrient cycling from water to land.
The Indian Soft-Shelled Turtles which are already becoming extinct and are categorized as endangered species as per Schedule-I of Indian Wild-Life Protection Act, 1972 are exposed to smuggling and trafficking.
The Indian Star Shell Tortoise which has a major population in a habitat are also threatened for their existence.
Edufun Foundation Trust became the medium to save those lives who were helpless to save themselves.
Sawmills Association and Ganesh Mandap provided tractors and tankers respectively. They poured water by tankers from 1st May 2020 to 1st July 2020.

Our future plan is to make the lake deeper and do tree plantation around the lake to make it sustainable in summer. It will add to the overall beauty of the lake as well as save the turtle from dying.
